The women’s team continues undefeated

After the two games played on Sunday, SC Saragoza’s women’s team still continues undefeated and in the top three of the table. SB Kauhajoki leads with a clean sheet (4 games and 8 points), KauWi with one goal better goaldifference second (4 games 7 points) and in third place SC Saragoza (4 games 7 points).

In their first game for the day the women’s team beat Nurmon Jymy with impressive 8-1 and after that tied with Kauhavan Wisa.

In the first game the line-up looked like this: Josefine Antfolk as netminder, Milla Perkiö and Maria Westdijk pairing up in the defence and Satu Dahlgren and Amanda Antfolk as the second pair. The offensive lines: Nina Sydholm, Emilia Heikinmäki and Iida Laine, Susanne Öström, Päivi Aittamäki and Pauliina Mäkelä and Cecilia Granlund, Jessica Hietikko and Linda Dahlmars.

After a good start, Iida opened the scoring, and the referees started to hand out minor penalties. First out Linda, who suffered a team penalty for too many players. The penalty was killed without any bigger effort and quite rapidly after it was over, Emppu found the right corner of the goal. In the end of the first period, Päivi scored and it started to look quite good.

The second period was pretty similar to the first one: Linda got penalized for a incorrect hit and the penaltykilling was still pretty impressive. Pauliina opened her scoring when she deked out the goaltender after a brilliant pass from Sussu and Jessica lazered one high in the end of the period after a big rebound from Cecilias shot. After two periods the score was comfortable 5-0 and the women’s team did not settle for that.

In the last period Pauliina added on to 6-0 with her second of the day. After that a Jymy-defender took a stupid penalty for pushing and the power play unit managed to score, after the penalty was over though. Iida redirected Pauliinas shot to 7-0. Neither of the refs noticed Iida’s effort and hence Pauliina was marked up with a hat trick in this game.

Amanda got her first minor penalty in her first game ever and Emppu liked the extra space in the rink and used the opportunity offered to her by Iida. 8-0 on the scoreboard. When Maria right after this was given a minor penalty for obstruction Nurmon Jymy also managed to get on the scoreboard with a high shot that passed a well-playing Josefine in the goal.

In the second game we faced dear old KauWi who were relegated from the second division after last season. KauWi had comfortably won all their previous games and is somewhat of a favourite to win the series.

Saragoza was forced to adjust the lineup a bit as Pauliina sprained her ankle at the end of the first game: Josefine Antfolk continued to mind the net, Milla Perkiö and Maria Westdijk and Satu Dahlgren and Amanda Antfolk took care of the defense. The wingers were paired up accordingly: Emilia Heikinmäki and Iida Laine, Susanne Öström and Linda Dahlmars and Cecilia Granlund and Nina Sydholm. Jessica Hietikko and Päivi Aittamäki took care of the centerforward position.

The game was pretty cautious and filled with a lot of scrimmages and the referees lost control of the game pretty early on. The first period was scoreless and KauWi should be quite content with that, as their goaltender did a couple of gamesaving saves early on in the period.

In the second period Päivi set Sussu up for the first goal of the game and the rest of the period was spend defending our own goal. A couple of counter attacks could have increased the scoring, but both netminders continued to shine.

In the third period the referees pulled a penalty for Milla out of their hats and before that was executed KauWi managed, with an extra attacker in the rink to open their scoring. 1-1 was also the final score even if we managed to put a lot of pressure on KauWi, especially in the final minutes of the game.
