Two wins brings the men’s team to the top of the league

Top of the league halfway into the year, that doesn’t sound too bad now, does it? Seven wins in ten games is enough to head the very tight table.

The road trip to Ylistaro was surprisingly pleasant, mainly due to the fact that both SB Kauhajoki II and FC Brändöpojkarna were defeated.

In the first game of the day, SB Kauhajoki got a lucky bounce start. Hans-Henrik Nordström evened the score with a slapshot from the defensive zone. SB Kauhajoki pulled up in front again but Jens Granqvist set the score to 2-2 after the first period. Jarno relieved Emilio (who had some bad Bounces) and this brought some fighting spirit to the team. 3-2 came in powerplay when Mats Backlund redirected a shot pass from Mika Kangasniemi. Mika Kangasniemi extended the lead to 2 goals, assisted by Jens Granqvist and Mika Mäkiranta finalized the scoring to 5-2 in the third period.

In the second game of the day FC Brändöpojkarna set the pace of the game with a intense start. Anton Hjulfors made sure that FCB pulled up a two-goal-lead early on in the game. Johan Nordgren cut the lead in half assisted by Peter Lassfolk. FCB once more pulled up a 2 goal lead in the final minute of the first period, but Mika Kangasniemi reduced on a pass by Mats Backlund. This was Mika’s 100 point and also Mats’ 300 point in games played in the series facilitated by the Finnish Floorball Federation.

Saragoza managed to pull up a lead in the 22nd minute when Jens juggled the ball past the FCB-keeper. Brändöpojkarna and Hjulfors evened up the score a minute later and after two periods of play the score was even 4-4.

Immediately in the third period Mats Backlund redirected Jens Granqvist pass and SC Saragoza regained the lead. Henrik Hakala (Adam Ziazikov) and Jani Korpi extended the lead and the final score was set to 4-7 after a very stabile last period.
